So, you’ve decided to use writers to create content that promotes your company and increases brand awareness. Congratulations on this decision! Using content to help build your brand is one of the most effective methods of driving the engagement of your target audience. The next step is finding one or more writers that not only align with your needs but also are easy to work with. How do you know who fits this description if you don't know any writers? Understanding how someone works can narrow down the list of potential writers you may want to hire for your project. Since you are here, I must be on your list. Let me share what you can expect from collaborating with me.

Meeting:

Any good relationship should get off on the right foot by getting to know each other. I like to start each potential client relationship by meeting via video call or over the phone. This allows us to get a feel for each other and discuss your project in detail. During these meetings, it is always ideal to have people who are the decision makers in choosing the writer or approving the project. The call allows both parties to ask questions to help ensure everyone understands the focus and full scope of your project as well as the specific tasks that need completed to consider the project a success. This may involve the discussion of:

  • Content Writing – What types of content are needed for the project? Newsletters, blog posts, health explainers, etc. We will drill down on what you need to accomplish.

  • Content planning - Outlining a plan for the timing and frequency of content posting or distribution.

  • SME Interviews – Do you need subject matter expert interviews? They can add value to content when trustworthy sources are used. However, not all content needs them.

  • Content Revision – Maybe you just need to update outdated or old information? Keeping content fresh keeps the readers coming back.

  • Budget - Open discussion of the project budget.

This meeting is vital to the success of your project. Not only does it help outline the project, but it helps both of us determine if we are a good fit for each other. If everyone is clicking, we move on to the next step.

Proposal:

Every project and organization is different, so everyone’s goals are different. With so many variables, it is difficult as a writer to have set prices. I’ve had clients who just want regular blog posts and others who want scripts, emails, and slides, all for a single project. So, after our initial meeting, I review my notes that outline the scope and scale of your project to help determine how I can best make it a success. I then work up a cost analysis for the project and submit a proposal to you. A proposal of services contains a breakdown of the specific work, timeline, and costs to make sure there are no surprises on either side. Once you review the proposal, you can accept, negotiate changes, or decline. Once the contract is worked out, the real work begins.

Collaboration:

When working with a client, I typically like to have a point of contact person with whom I can engage for questions, changes, or updates to the project. This person should be available by email, phone, or video calls if needed.

  • Following your style guide, I do my best to align my writing style and voice with your specific brand or person in the case of ghostwriting. In the case of no style guide, I use the Associated Press Style Book and work with the contact person to ensure the writing stays on brand.

  • I use my healthcare background to leverage great interviews from SMEs.

  • Working within the parameters of the content calendar, drafts of projects are submitted on time for any needed edits.

If all goes as planned, your project achieves its goals. Whether it is increasing site traffic, increasing brand awareness, education, or something else.

I work with marketing teams and editors who want the expertise of hiring a writer with a background in health. They understand the value and trustworthiness my expertise brings. Let’s work together to take your content to the next level.
