After a slow start to the year, things are really picking up around here. These are the things I'm working on this month:
A series of journalism articles on suicide prevention. I live in a rural community. For those who don't know, the rates of suicide are much higher in rural areas than in urban areas. Unfortunately, our community is already getting hit hard this year from people dying by suicide. With good reason, my editor at one of the local papers is very passionate about bringing attention to this topic for the community. She tasked me with this series to reduce the stigma around suicide so those people at risk can get help. You can read my first article in the series here.
An article on the gut microbiome. Are you familiar with microbiomes? They are little communities of bacteria, parasites, and viruses. The microbiomes are found all over your body. A wellness group I routinely write for wanted to explore the connection between the microbes in your gut and the rest of your well-being. This article was an interesting one to work on. I always enjoy learning new things and this was a good reminder that everything in the body is connected.
Promotional materials for a medical tech start-up. This was assigned by one of my favorite tech companies to work for. They are ramping up for a new webinar and needed promotional letters to send out with a quick turnaround time. It was nice to see how the company's brief has evolved. Looks like I'm not the only one growing a business! I whipped the promotional letters out lickety-split!
Webinar script and slides. Working for the same favorite tech start-up, they tasked me with writing a script for three webinar participants and providing the accompanying slides. I've done this work in the past, and I find building the script simultaneously with the slides makes the work a bit easier. Building slides is not something many writers do. It's very time-consuming. But I enjoy the mental shift in creativity. Plus, I'm a very visual person and enjoy making pleasing visuals.
Women's health articles. Oh, I haven't forgotten my favorite topic – women's health. I've got blog posts and articles on menopause coming up. This area remains very popular with the Gen X ladies. I'm also tasked with an assignment for a few articles on domestic abuse prevention.
As a bonus, I got some great feedback from an editor. "This is awesome, Leanna! Great information and very readable for the average person." That's the kind of feedback that makes my day!
So, yeah, I'm busy! When it rains, it pours around here. I can't wait to see what next month brings.
